Oahe / Sharpe

Lake Oahe is putting out some really nice fat Walleyes right now.  I was up in the Cheyenne today and although there was no huge numbers of Walleyes the bigger ones were worth the wait.  I was working bottom bouncers in 15 to 30 foot and if I had a number to pick it would be 22 foot.  Go shallow when the 3 to 4 foot waves start pounding in hard creating mudlines that hold lots of baitfish.  I found some nice fish in 15 foot in the bigger waves and then out deeper when the wind let up a bit.  Bouncers and crawlers were the best presentation today by far.  There are a lot of Pike in Oahe right now and its a blast to hook into them on light Walleye tackle.  I have been pounding on Smallmouth on shallow humps that top out in less than ten feet.  I like to find that type of structure with really deep water nearby.  Loaded with Smallmouth every time.  I would call Oahes bite fair to good depending on the wind.  Fun

Lake Sharpe is on fire right now.  Not uncommon to go thru 50 plus Walleyes and the Smallmouth bite is good too.  I had three South Dakota Trophy Angler Award Smallmouth Bass last week.  Biggest was almost 20 inches.  The Walleyes this year on Sharpe look really good.  Lots of 14 to 18 inch Walleyes to be had.  When the size limit comes off in July you could have your limit of 14 to 18 inch Walleyes in no time flat.  Then its time to roll up shallow and pound on the world class Smallmouth Bass fishery that Lake Sharpe is famous for.   My best presentation for Walleyes on Lake Sharpe right now is along the channel edges in 16 to 25 foot with bouncers and crawlers.  Sunken humps and Islands are holding a ton of Walleyes too.  Roll up in 14 foot or less for the Smallmouth Bass bite.  Tons of action there.  Both the Walleye bite and the Smallmouth bite on Sharpe is very good.  Bouncers and cranks for the Bass.  The best bite on Sharpe is still downstream from Degray to the Dam.  I like fishing the Lower Brule side.

I have been getting ALOT of phone calls and emails asking if I go to the dock as soon as we limit on Walleyes.  I have NEVER done that in my 22 years of professional guiding.  I FISH A FULL 8 HOUR DAY and we fish for ALL SPECIES of fish.  Those people have been ripped off and I don't blame them for being upset.  There is lots of other species of fish to for and we practice catch and release all day long.  I cut the hooks on my deep hooked fish and mainly chase Smallmouth after we limit on Walleyes.  Don't let anyone tell you that there is no bite other than Walleye.   The Bass limits are quite liberal and limits of Walleyes and Smallmouth on the same day is not that uncommon.  I fish for EVERYTHING for a FULL DAY!  Walleyes, Smallmouth, Northern Pike... Whatever is biting...  This is YOUR trip and I am going to give you your moneys worth.  I have been a professional fishing guide for 22 years and will not rip you off like that.  You get what you pay for.

Thank you,
